Despite being back in Westchester county for a good long while, I’d never gotten around to going to Crabtree’s Kittle House in Chappaqua until last evening. Now I’m regretting all the lost time. The Kittle House—a former roadhouse (oh so welcome during those Prohibition years), a one-time farm, and home to a now-closed school for girls—is the perfect place to celebrate a major life milestone, as the Brawny Sherpa and I were doing last night.

O Where else could one have a shot of carrot ginger macchiato?
O The lemon drops
O The chocolate-covered strawberries served as a freebie at the end of our meal
O The oysters
If I were in charge, the Kittle House would be doing this:
O Offering more vegan/vegetarian options, ranging beyond salads, eggplant parmigiana, and veggie burgers.
O Redoing some of the seemingly-from-the-’70s elements of the main dining room (including the ceiling tiles and the room dividers). The Tap Room seemed far more intimate.
The service was attentive and not pushy, the weather cooperated and provided a sparkly, frosty, light snow, and the company, of course, was perfect. Even if you don’t have a reason to, go soon!
Note from the Brawny Sherpa:
The prime cut New York sirloin steak, medium rare, was perfect. Oysters were good, but if you want really good oysters, the Farmer & the Fish in North Salem is the place to go, thanks to Richie, the top shucker.
