Passing through Guayaquil on the Way to Galapagos
On a press trip to the Galapagos Islands, the Youthful Adventurer and I stay briefly, before and after our island adventure, at the Hotel Oro Verde in Guayaquil. As we really are just touching down here after a flight to Ecuador from New York before we take a smaller plane to Galapagos and then again on our return leg, our expectations are low. All we really want is a place to sleep and maybe to eat.
What a surprise! We are so tired by the time we arrive, we do little more than grab some dinner at the hotel—and very good dinner, at that—before we head to bed. The staff is pleasant, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and our stay is quite nice.
On our return trip, after a week of cruising and hiking and snorkeling and enjoying the outdoors, we are baked with sunscreen and grateful for the luxuriousness of long hot showers and the array of the hotel restaurant’s menu. Now we also have more time to people watch in the lobby, to explore the neighborhood, and to appreciate this charming hotel before taking a morning shuttle to the airport.
