Choosing a hotel that meets the budget and everyone’s expectations on a family vacation in Spain isn’t always easy.
Neither the Youthful Adventurer nor I can remember how we settled on a stay at the Kimpton Vividora Barcelona for our inaugural visit to Barcelona, but it turned out to be perfect for multigenerational travel. Conveniently located in the Gothic quarter, the hotel allowed easy access to the charming shops of the sector but also to the Barcelona Cathedral, and, in the other direction, to Las Ramblas and the Mercat de la Boqueria. An added nearby attraction is the Roman sepulchral way (La Via Sepulcral Romana), a Roman burial ground discovered in the 1950s. In some measure, it serves as a reminder of Spain’s sometimes turbulent history.

But in the relative calm of the present and focused on a familial adventure in Barcelona, I liked the convenience of coffee and cocktails on the ground floor of the Kimpton Vividora Barcelona and an in-house restaurant, Fauna, a bit above—even as many other dining options are in close proximity. The Youthful Adventurer (now a member of the 30-plus crowd) appreciated the rooftop pool and bar. The free wifi made a good stay even better.
Having stayed in a number of Kimpton hotels over the years, mostly on work-related trips, I knew to expect good service and an unencumbered check-in. Staff members always were helpful and never intrusive. Kimpton Vividora is just a pleasant place to be and a well-located one from which to embark on walking tours of Barcelona. Highly recommend!
