Living in the far northern part of Westchester County, N.Y., I somehow don’t often breach what has been referred to as “the great 287 divide”—a phrase referring to the interstate highway that bisects the county. Those living north of it tend to stay north, those south, south.
Invited to a networking event at Yonkers Brewing Company, I make my way down county to the fourth largest city in New York (following the Big Apple, Buffalo, and Rochester). Heading south via the Saw Mill Parkway, my commute is easy. I park on the street and shortly discover the joy of vanilla stout. What’s not to like about creamy, coffee, toffee with subtle hints of vanilla? I only wish I could have stayed long enough to try all of the beers.

Housed in an historic building that was once the Yonkers Trolley Barn, Yonkers Brewing is located by the Hudson River waterfront at 92 Main Street, Yonkers, 10701. Tours of the brewery are available.
