Opportunities at the Airport when You Get There Early
Waiting for a flight? Get a makeover! Or a new book! Or a handbag. Airport shopping involves far more than overpriced tee shirts these days. Here, Terminal 4 at JFK.

The Brawny Sherpa is one of those get-to-the-airport-well-in-advance types, and as much as I disparage this approach, he tends to win in our little disagreements by asking the tiniest little question: Have you ever missed a plane? Well, as it happens, I have.
On the day we are slated to flee New York’s robust winter, I for once agree that deadline hugging will not be the best approach. The snow has cancelled flights earlier in the week, we are really not sure how the weather will be, the rush-hour traffic is always a bit unpredictable. Let’s go.
We are fortunate to have a calm ride to JFK and to learn that our flight is slated to take off at its scheduled time. All is well there, but this means we have a few hours to kill in Terminal 4. How many coffees can I sip?
Because I typically rush through terminals, I haven’t really noticed what’s there when you slow down. It’s a mall! I cruise a Coach handbag store, browse through some books, marvel at the items in a museum shop. Were I so inclined, I could get a mani, pedi, and a massage. I could have a lot of fun playing in some makeup. I do. Most of my airport shopping is of the window sort, but at least my airport wait is more pleasant.
