What to Look for in the Manhattan Train Station
To visit New York City’s Grand Central Station with the eyes of a tourist, rather than the blinders of a daily commuter, look for what is memorable. Of course, we’ve all made arrangements to meet at that Grand Central clock at some point in time, but does everyone know to look up at the ceiling for the little grimy patch left to reflect its decay before its renovation in the 1990s? The whispering arch by the Oyster Bar beckons; just watching other visitors throw their voices from one side to the other can be amusing. The eagle outside can be easy to miss unless you happen to be looking up.
Looking for artifacts can help visitors notice more than they otherwise would. Have you seen Grand Central’s letterbox? Some secrets of New York are in plain sight.
