Summertime at the Jersey Shore means sand, surf, amusement park rides, and certain culinary delicacies that seem to taste best when consumed on or near a boardwalk. Here is where to eat at Point Pleasant Beach NJ:

The Food Shack, Point Pleasant Beach

The hardest decision a visitor to the Food Shack in Point Pleasant Beach will have to make likely will be deciding what to have. My favorites are lobster grilled cheese with a side of crabby fries seasoned with Old Bay and served with chipotle mayonnaise. Does summer get any better than this? Sit down at this open-air restaurant on the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach, or get some take-out. Have Manhattan clam chowder, or New England clam chowder, or both.

Carnivores might especially appreciate the appearance of pork roll on the Food Shack’s menu; indeed, it’s worth a visit just for some.

Try the beach house classic: an egg, cheese, and pork roll sandwich on raisin bread toast. More healthful choices like a Caesar salad or a chicken Caesar wrap are also available.

The Food Shack also serves breakfast.

An extra perq: The Food Shack also has a bath house with bathrooms, showers, and lockers available for rental so you don’t have to take your stuff back and forth to the beach if you happen to be staying around for a while.

South Beach Sweets

Those in need of a sugar high will delight in South Beach Sweets, a charmingly sweet place that has  been around since 1928. Visitors of any age will appreciate the feeling of being a kid in a candy store. What will you have?

Classics like salt water taffy, candied apples, and blissfully fresh cotton candy are available here.

I opt for a refreshing Dole pineapple float but must return for a cannoli sundae. The youthful adventurer accompanying me opts for a more healthful smoothie, but we both secretly delight in taking home tubs of spun sugar.

For more of a date-night dinner out, head to Jack Baker’s Lobster Shanty on the Manasquan River. It’s not on the Point Pleasant boardwalk, but the views are still delightful! Be sure to make a reservation—this place is very popular.

A great place to head for more casual, and open-air, dining is right next door at Jack Baker’s Wharfside Restaurant and Patio Bar. Watch the water while sipping a gin basil smash or an Aperol spritz.
