The Convenience of an NYC Hotel in Midtown
Planning a short adventure to New York City where we would act as tourists in the metropolis closest to our home, the Brawny Sherpa and I opt for a stay at 6 Columbus, an 88-room hotel actually located at 308 West 58 Street, just across from the Shops at Columbus Circle (in the Time Warner Center). We are here in the holiday season, which we love, but it is also a moment when New York City is thronged with tourists.
Why This Hotel Near Columbus Circle?
Choosing where to stay in New York City can also pose a challenge; we must balance convenience, price, and availability. We opt for a Columbus Circle location because it’s a bit removed from the Times Square and Rockefeller Plaza madness, but sufficiently close should we opt to partake of it. Being near Columbus Circle, we can get some quick relief from the city’s intensity by taking a quick walk in Central Park.
Why we choose 6 Columbus: Situated at a prime location in midtown Manhattan, we can grab drinks, dinner, or a new Coach bag all too easily.
What we really need is a place to sleep in between our jaunts about the city and a nook to stow our packages in while we traipse about Manhattan. Our room, at just 175 square feet, provides just that. It’s clean and what some might call updated mid-century modern (there’s a delightful tinge of the sixties in the hotel’s decor). Our only minor complaint is that the bed is a bit too firm for our taste.
What’s Attractive about the 6 Columbus Hotel for Bashful Adventurers?
- Convenience. There’s a sushi restaurant in the building and a Starbucks and Duane Reade drugstore next door to 6 Columbus.
- A soak. Our room (number 77) has a wonderful soaking tub.
- Reasonably priced. I booked my stay at 6 Columbus via the HotelTonight app (and I did so days prior to my stay, not the day of). Want to give HotelTonight a try? Use my code LOTRIPOLI to get up to $50 back after your first HotelTonight booking. Get the app here: https://txt.htltn.com/slUhyPZO7S (if you book using my code for your first booking, I’ll be able to save some money on future bookings, too.)
- Food and drinks. The Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill is located on the first floor. Although we have other dining plans on this visit, we stop by for cocktails. The host immediately makes space for us at the bar and brings an extra chair over. The sushi passing by us looks fantastic.
- A view. In better weather, a rooftop bar is open.
We will most definitely stay here again.
